Sustain Pedal
About This Lesson
What is a Sustain Pedal?
Good Question! Sometimes you will also hear it called a “damper pedal”…but don’t get confused about its function. If you are playing a real piano then you will typically see 2-3 pedals but the sustain will always be on the far right.
When pressed, the sustain pedal “sustains” the notes you just played. It does this by moving all the dampers away from the strings allowing them to vibrate continuously.
Main things to keep in mind:
- Avoid the “Mushy” sound
- Avoid a Break in the sound
